It is great recognition for the production team that poured their heart and soul in to this special project, and also for the families that told their stories and shared their lives with us through the film.

The Worlds Apart crew heads off to Thailand this month for a series of documentary screenings; from Bangkok to the small jungle village of Huay Malai.

The film was translated by a group of volunteers from Thai Christian Fellowship, Liverpool. After many long sessions in the recording studio the translations were complete, and the film ready for its debut in Thailand.

It’s really exciting to be able to take the film back to the village where we shot it. I can’t wait to see the looks on people faces when they see themselves on the big screen. More importantly though, I hope that it helps in bringing more awareness to the people of Thailand to the needs (and abilities) of people living with disability around them – Director, Tim Robinson

Event Cinemas, Castle Hill, hosted a special preview screening of WORLDS APART on the 29th of May. The 270 seat cinema was sold out during the week leading up to the screening so an upgrade was made to the 450 seat Senstadium. It was a great turnout with 400 people in attendance.

Toni and Joshua Mitchell (featured in the film) flew down from Toowoomba for the event. Joshua was excited to see himself on the big screen once again and he gave all in the cinema a running commentary as the documentary screened. You might say, it was WORLDS APART in 4D!

After the screening, Chris Dredge hosted a Q&A panel featuring Tim Robinson (Director/Producer), Matt Nelson (Producer), Toni Mitchell (featured in film) and Michael Brierley (featured in film). The response was incredible and many thoughtful questions were asked. People genuinely wanted to know how they could respond to what they had learned. Over the coming weeks this website will include some practical ways you can respond to what you have seen in the film.

On Saturday, a special preview screening of ‘WORLDS APART’ was held in Toowoomba at Birch & Carroll Cinemas. The exclusive event was opened by Toowoomba’s official Town-Crier, Ralph Cockle with the sound of his bell and a hearty “Hear ye! Hear ye!”

150 special guests attended the event including representatives of care organisations and local residents that featured in the documentary. Toni Mitchell (pictured) was featured in the film as the Mother and full-time carer of Joshua (pictured), who was born with Down Syndrome.

During the screening, Kleenex were on high demand as the film delved into the challenges and joys associated with raising a child with a disability. After the screening, guests were treated to a Q&A with the films Director/Producer Tim Robinson, Producer Matt Nelson and Joshua‘s mother Toni Mitchell.

A birthday celebration followed for Joshua who turned 10 over the weekend. Brisbane songwriter and musician, Kaytee Faulkner, performed a beautiful song she wrote, appropriately titled ‘Joshy’. The night was capped off with the cutting of birthday cake and many well wishes.

This Saturday is Sydneys turn to preview the film. A screening will take place at Castle Hill, Event Cinemas. Buy Tickets.
